Nested Lines is a collaboration from illustrator Malika Favre and artist Alice Roux born from a mutual love for colours, objects and beauty.

After discovering Alice’s work back in 2020 when looking for beautiful objects online, Malika instantly fell in love with Alice’s unique furniture pieces. The pair started talking and quickly decided to embark on a collaboration. What started as a one-off collaborative table soon turned into a capsule collection.

In order to document this collaboration, the duo asked Belgium director Jérôme de Gerlache to direct a short behind-the-scene film of the creative process. Jérôme travelled to both Barcelona and Brussels to film and interview Alice and Malika in their respective studios.

The Film

From concept…

Starting with the iconic shape of the coffee table previously designed by Alice, Malika proposed a duo of interlocking Toucan birds that would live within the bounds of the table itself, thus turning it into a symbolic nest.

A multitude of drawings were developed with the same concept of “nesting” in mind : by carefully placing the abstracted birds directly onto the objects.

Next Malika and Alice worked together on developing a colour palette that would bring playfulness and warmth and represent their shared colour sensibility.

… to object.

After some back and forth, four of the drawings were selected and it was finally time for the two disciplines - illustration and design - to come together and be brought to life in Alice’s studio.

Over the next couple of months, Alice spent her time studying every detail of Malika’s drawings, in order to capture their essence. Through numerous painted sketches, Alice refined her gesture on tangents, curves, and angles — all key elements of Malika’s masterful line work.

She then experimented with painted hues and colours in her studio, perfecting it with the resin technique she developed to unveil a perfect fusion between the form and the object.

The collection

Nested Lines is one-of-a-kind collection that celebrates the harmonious blend of craftsmanship and creativity.

This first collection unfolds across four meticulously handcrafted walnut pieces: a coffee table, a side table, and two wall-mounted shelves.

Malika's geometric birds transform into a playful display on Alice's double-sided furniture.
Painted on both faces, the objects gracefully meld into the surrounding space. Their vibrant, intense hues are enhanced by a layer of resin, lending them a distinct gleam that contrasts with the wood's matte texture.

The collection stands as a testimony to the seamless fusion of expertise, spanning from the design's inception in Spain by Malika to the artisanal woodwork in Portugal, culminating in the realisation of each painting and resin treatment by Alice in her Belgian workshop.

The prints

To accompany the launch of Nested Lines, Malika is also releasing limited edition Giclée prints of the four original drawings. Each piece is limited to 100, signed and numbered by the artist and sold exclusively on Malika’s online shop.
